2024-25 December Teacher of the Month
Congratulations to Mr. Tyler Woodson from Ocean Bay Middle School! Do you know what he feels is most rewarding about being a teacher? Read on to discover all about him below.
Teacher of the Month
How long have you been a teacher? This is my 4th year being a middle school science teacher.
How long have you been at your current school and what grade do you teach? I have taught all 4 years at Ocean Bay Middle School in 7th grade science.
What led you into teaching and what continues to motivate you? I was led to teaching through my drive to help others learn in college and getting to share my knowledge of a topic that others were lacking and then seeing the “light bulb” moment when it clicked with them. This is part of what still drives and motivates me today, but also seeing the kids develop and become their own unique individual over the year as well.
What was your reaction to winning the award? Initially, I was so confused about and shocked on what was happening but once it clicked, I was pleasantly surprised and honored that my students present, or past would think to nominate me for this award.
What was the reaction of your class? They were excited to hear and saying that it was well deserved that one of their favorite teachers was recognized. They were also very excited when the coupons were shared with them as well.
Have you been to Sky Zone before? If so, what was your experience like? I have not yet been to Sky Zone but have heard great things about the facility and activities. I am looking forward to getting to go.
What do you find most rewarding about being a teacher? The most rewarding aspect of teaching is not seeing them grow and understand the subject area I teach but rather seeing them grow as an individual and getting to create personal relationships with each student that hopefully will continue for many years once they leave my classroom.
Outside of the classroom, what are some of your interests? Outside of the classroom I enjoy going to the gym, reading, traveling, playing with my dog, and going to the beach
