Teacher of the Month
How long have you been a teacher? This is my 17th year in the classroom.
How long have you been at your current school and what grade do you teach? I am a 2nd Grade teacher and this is my 4th year at River Oaks Elementary.
What led you into teaching and what continues to motivate you? I have always had a heart for children and knew from an early age that I wanted to be a teacher. I love watching children grow and develop not only academically, but socially and emotionally as well. My class each year truly becomes a family where we learn and grow from one another.
What was your reaction to winning the award? I was surprised and so thankful to be recognized by my peers, family members, current student families and even some previous families of students I have taught. It makes the craziness of our days feel like it’s all worth it. I am also so happy for my kiddos to get the prizes. They have worked so hard this year and they deserve to be celebrated!
What was the reaction of your class? My students were so excited and now we are all trying to plan a time to meet up over the summer!
Have you been to Sky Zone before? If so, what was your experience like? I have been to Sky Zone with students for their birthday parties. It is such a great place with so many different activities to keep the kids busy for a long time!
What do you find most rewarding about being a teacher? I truly love getting to know my students and their families and helping them grow in all areas of life. When a child leaves my classroom at the end of the year, one of my biggest hopes is that they know that they have someone in their corner rooting for them for the rest of their lives. I love watching my students as they move up through elementary, middle, high school and even throughout college. I hope they know I am always a quick text or phone call away.
Outside of the classroom, what are some of your interests? I love spending summer days at the beach and the pool with my family, reading, relaxing and just enjoying every minute of every season life has to offer.
