2022-23 May Sky Zone Teacher of the Month
Stephanie Allen graduated from Coastal Carolina University with a degree in English and Journalism, but she was unsure of her ultimate career path.
Teacher of the Month
She worked as a freelance writer and dabbled in retail, finance and even advertising but never found a fulfilling job. Still in search of a career where she could make a difference, Allen began pursuing her Master of Education at Coastal.
As part of her studies, she interned at Myrtle Beach High School and they liked her so much she was offered a full-time position for the following fall.
“This is my 7th year being a Seahawk,” Allen said. “I’ve never taught at another school, and I have no urge to.”
Students at MBHS speak 29 different languages and Allen has embraced that diversity, creating an interactive learning environment her kids love.
“I learn just as much from them as they do from me,” Allen said. “We do lots of hands-on projects, play crazy Tik Tok games, and even have brain break dance parties. I devote my time to making their learning experience current and fun. My classroom is loud and chaotic, and that’s exactly how I want it to be.”
The atmosphere Allen creates has allowed her to bond with her students beyond test grades.
“We cry together, laugh together, stress together, and even scream together sometimes, but the biggest part is that we are together,” Allen said. “When students walk into my classroom, they become a part of my life forever.”
That connection with her students led them to nominating Allen for Sky Zone’s Teacher of the Month award, an honor she won in May.
“My family and I visit Sky Zone frequently,” she said. “From play dates to birthday parties, it’s a great way to get out energy and make memories at the same time.”
Allen is also helping her students help make memories that will last a lifetime.
