2022-23 February Sky Zone Teacher of the Month
Melissa Arrisueno is new to Myrtle Beach but it didn’t take her long to make an impact. After graduating from Ursinus College and earning her master’s degree from Johns Hopkins, Arrisueno taught on both sides of the country before coming to the Grand Strand.
Teacher of the Month
Myrtle Beach | March 27, 202
Now, less than eight months into her tenure, she has been voted Sky Zone’s Teacher of the Month for February. Enjoy getting to know a little more about one of teaching’s rising young stars.
How long have you been a teacher (overall and along the Grand Strand)?
This is my fifth year teaching and my first-year in Horry County. I have taught in Los Angeles and Baltimore before.
How long have you been at your current school and what grade do you teach?
I have been a teacher with Myrtle Beach Primary for one school year and I teach 2nd grade.
What led you into teaching and what continues to motivate you?
I started off doing City Year New York right after college. I was an interventionist and after school teacher. I loved seeing the gains my students were making and that is what motivates me.
What was your reaction to winning the award?
I was so overjoyed and shocked from winning the award. I have not received a lot of recognition before so it’s good to know that others recognize the work we’re doing in the classroom.
What was the reaction of your class?
They were SO EXCITED! They kept telling me that I deserved it and that was the best compliment from them:)
Have you been to Sky Zone before? If so, what was your experience like?
I have not been to Sky Zone before so I am excited to try it out.
What do you find most rewarding about being a teacher?
The most rewarding thing about being a teacher is the strong relationships I build with my students.
Outside of the classroom, what are some of your interests?
I love dogs! I have two of them, one is a Labrador and the other is a Labradoodle. I also love being active and playing soccer in my free time:) Traveling the world is a passion of mine.
