How long have you been a teacher? This is my 11th year teaching.
How long have you been at your current school and what grade do you teach? I have been at Ocean Drive Elementary my whole career, since 2014. I started off teaching 5th grade and taught 5th grade for 9 years. I have now switched to 3rd grade and I am on my second year teaching 3rd grade. I teach GT Math and also teach science/social studies.
What led you into teaching and what continues to motivate you? I have had several teachers in my life make a difference and motivated me to become a teacher. I love interacting with kids and seeing how their minds work/learn. I continue to stay motivated through building positive relationships with my students and enjoy watching them grow. It is amazing to see my students’ progress throughout the year and see their love for learning.
What was your reaction to winning the award? I was completely shocked because I didn’t expect to be selected for such an awesome award. I had no clue that Sky Zone even promoted this for teachers. It is such a neat program and I am beyond thankful and blessed to have been selected. Thank you!
What was the reaction of your class? They were also shocked and were so excited for me! It was sweet to see their reactions and how they congratulated me. My students are also thankful for the coupons! A lot of them said they love going to Sky Zone and Crazy Mason. A few have never been, so they were super excited to get the chance. Thank you!
Have you been to Sky Zone before? If so, what was your experience like? Yes, I have been to SkyZone one time. I brought my son and he really enjoyed it. We will definitely have to give it another chance and go soon!
What do you find most rewarding about being a teacher? The most rewarding thing about being a teacher is the ability to see the growth and moments where students overcome obstacles, whether it be academically and/or socially. I hope that I make a positive difference in their lives where they feel comfortable and engaged in the classroom, but also learn a lot that they will take with them for the years to come. I love building positive relationships with my students and being that I teach third grade now, I look forward to seeing my students the next year in the hallways.
Outside of the classroom, what are some of your interests? I enjoy reading, going to the beach and pool, watching movies, going shopping, and spending time with my son & family!
